Aquarius Astrology - Aquarius is Latin for "water-bearer" or "cup-bearer". Aquarius Constellation is placed in the sky near other watery constellations including Delphinus and Pisces.
In Greek mythology, Aquarius was Ganymede, a young boy who was the son of Tros, king of Troy.
Ganymede was described by Homer as the most beautiful of mortals.
While tending his father's sheep, he was spotted by Zeus. The king of gods was so mesmerized by the boy's unusual beauty, that he flew down from heavens in the form of an eagle, and abducted him.
Ever since, the boy has served as cup bearer to the Olympian Gods.
In another beautiful Greek myth, Aquarius is the water bearer in Olympus.
It is said that Aquarius poured water from the heavens for days and weeks, inundating the Earth and creating the Great Flood.
There were only two survivors, husband and wife Deucalion and Pyrrha.
They walked about as the waters became lower and exposed more and more land. They didn't know what to do and appealed to an oracle.
The oracle told them to throw over their shoulders the bones of their mother, which symbolically meant stones from Mother Earth.
So as the two walked along, they picked up stones and kept tossing them over their shoulders.
After a while, they looked behind them and there were people. The stones that Deucalion had thrown had become men and those thrown by Pyrrha had become women.
Therefore, Aquarius became known as the taker of life and the giver of life.
