Libra Astrology - Libra is Latin for "weighing scales", scales being Libra zodiac sign symbol. Libra Constellation is not directly associated with any specific myth.
However, Libra Constellation has been connected by some sources to the ancient Egyptian legend related to Anubis, the Lord of the Dead, who used a scale to weigh the souls of the dead.
The legend tells that Anubis and his brother, Apu-at, watched over the two roads that led to the Underworld.
Anubis job was to weigh the souls of the dead using a scale and to determine their value based upon what the individuals had done on Earth.
After weighing the souls, Anubis would send the worthy ones to the Kingdom of Osiris, which was the equivalent of Heaven.
The scales were a symbol of final judgment not only in the ancient Egypt, but in the Greek mythology symbolism also.
The Greek culture associated Anubis, the Egyptian Lord of the Dead, with the God Hermes, who was often called the Conductor of Souls.
The scales symbol was connected with the God Chronos, who was both judge and executioner.
Very similar to Egyptian Anubis, Chronos measured out human souls on his scales, whether they balanced or not, between years and seasons, and between days and nights.
Other association of the scales symblol was with Themis, Goddess of Divine Justice and Law, the daughter of Earth Goddess and Zeus.
Themis was also mother of the Seasons, the Hours and the Three Fates, who determined the destiny of all mortals and souls.
Themis was one of the original Titans. She personified the social order of law and customs and she is portrayed in art holding a pair of scales in one hand.
