Taurus Astrology - Taurus is the second sign of the Zodiac. Taurus name is Latin for "bull', and its zodiac astrological symbol is a stylized bull's head.
In Greek mythology, Taurus was identified with Zeus, who assumed the form of a magnificent white bull to abduct Europa, a beautiful Phoenician princess.
According to the legend, Zeus, the father of the Greek Gods, fell madly in love with the princess.
As she was always guarded by her father's soldiers, and knowing that his appearance would terrify the lovely girl, Zeus had to find a trick to get close to her and seduce her. He transformed himself into a beautiful white bull with golden horns and mixed in with her father's herds.
While Europa and her female attendants were gathering flowers, she saw the bull, and mesmerized by its beauty, came close to him and they became friends.
One day, while petting him, the majestic bull knelt down before her and allowed the princess to climb upon its back.
Zeus took that opportunity and ran to the sea and swam, with her on his back, to the island of Crete.
He then revealed his true identity, and made the beautiful Europa his mistress and Queen of Crete.
Zeus told his beautiful queen that all the land she could see belonged to her. That land became known as the Europe Continent.
Europa gave Zeus three sons, Minos (the future King of Crete), Rhadamanthys (one of the Three Judges of the Dead) and Sarpendon (the founder of Greek city of Miletus).
Zeus later re-created the shape of the white bull in the stars, which is now known as the Constellation Taurus.
